FAQs

Why cloth diapers?

Parents cite the cost, being chemical-free, and sustainability as the main reasons for cloth diapering their babies.

A cloth diapering system costs an initial investment of approximately $200 to $400 dollars depending on part-time or full-time use. Using disposable diapers from infancy to potty-training costs approximately $2,000 to $3,000.

Cloth diapers by nature are frangrance-free, additive-free, and chemical-free. Since cloth diapers are a soft, clean diapering option, they are a great way to prevent diaper rashes. You control what touches your baby's skin!

From infancy to potty-training, a baby will use 6,000 to 8,000 disposable diapers. By using cloth, thousands of disposable diapers are saved from landfills. (Even one cloth diaper used per day is 365 disposable diapers saved per year!) The sustainability grows if used for multiple children!

CLOTH DIAPER CARE FAQs

My diapers have poop stains! How can I fix this?

Lay out in sun to naturally bleach the diapers/inserts. It may take an extra day of sun to naturally bleach if you live in a region with a lower UV index. If stains persist, rub with a baking soda paste prior to washing to help lift stains. Then, proceed with normal washing routine.

My diapers smell like ammonia! How can I fix this? (Metallic smell)

Add 1/4 cup of vinegar to your first wash. The vinegar will neutralize the ammonia.

My diapers aren’t absorbing! How can I fix this?

If you have hard water, then your diapers can have minerals build up in them leaving a residue and preventing max absorption. To fix this, soak your diapers in warm water and 1 tablespoon of citric acid. This will help the residue release. Proceed with normal washing routine after soaking.

How can I extend the life of my diapers?

Pocket diapers can last up to 6 years and beyond with proper care!

  • Unsnap all snaps prior to washing to prevent unnecessary pulling on the fabric.
  • Wash consistently every 2 to 3 days as letting used diapers sit longer can cause bacteria to start breaking down the elastics.
  • Do not overstuff the pocket diapers. This can stretch the elastics past their limit causing them to break down prematurely.
  •  Air-drying or line-drying out of direct sunlight will help preserve the lifespan of the PUL's water-resistant coating and the elastics.
